Zucchero, Pat Metheny and Els Amics de les Arts


The festival Guitar Bcn will raise the curtain of its new edition on January 25 With the performance of The secrets at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and will download it practically five months later with the concert it will offer Zucchero on June 22 in the Palau de la Música.

This noon has presented most of the content of the 31st edition of the cycle, which will count as best known names, in addition to the Italian Zucchero, with those of Pat Metheny, Joe Satriani, Noa and Els Amics de les Arts. As its director remarked, Joan Roselló, the names presented come to assume between 90 and 95 percent of the final poster of the festival, which will move again in an offer that moves between the 40 and 50 soloists and groups, "something similar to those of the last three or four editions."

With a budget that amounts to million and a half euros, the Guitar Bcn bets in its new edition for a series of vertebral columns that its director summed up: quality of the proposal, offering a comfortable environment to the spectators and a proximity to the performers, a policy of sustainable previews at a time when caches soar, discovery of groups and soloists and, finally, an outstanding empowerment of the local scene.

Among the international names, in addition to those mentioned, which will be present in a stylistically transversal program, cohabit as the legendary band Jethro Tull, Read Fields or Pablo Milanés to closer and current references such as Bebel Gilberto, Kevin Johansen, Nouvelle Vague, Gabriela Richardson or Danny Ocean. Among the very large local representation, those who attract premiere new work record as Els Amics de les Arts (Catalan premiere on May 16), Carlos Sadness (May 16) or Nil Moliner (March 29).

In this respect, this edition of the Guitar Bcn will feature a representation of the local scene which will practically mean fifty percent of the tickets put up for sale. Roselló remarked in this order of things "the spectacular complicity of the festival with the public", as testimony that in the last four editions reached 90 percent of tickets sold, and that in this new edition "we hope to sell 60,000 tickets"





The artistic director of the cycle, Judit Llimós, emphasized some proper names such as the highlights of the new edition, starting with Zucchero, many years without acting in Barcelona city and which will be released in the Palau de la Música; the presentation of the highly anticipated new album by Els Amics de les Arts (now a trio), which will have previously offered a couple of concerts in Valencia and Reus. A guitar legend like Pat Metheny will also present new workFrom this place, June 16), which five days before will be preceded by the display of another wizard of the instrument as Joe Satriani (who will receive the Golden Pick of the festival). Also noteworthy is the new presence of Not, which will offer a unique concert on the occasion of his thirty-year career.

Emphasis was also placed on the section on pearls to discover, concreting in the concerts of The Milk Carton Kids, with new album; the aforementioned Lee Fields, María Peláe and Erlend Oye & La Comitiva.





In the rest of the broad poster you can find known names (consecrated, consolidated and promising) as Coque Malla, Arnau Griso, 091 Xoel López, Núria Graham, India Martínez, El Kanka, Ferran Palau, Mrs. Tomasa, Suu or Bely Basarte, not forgetting the Dancetería project, formed by the groups Miss Caffeína and Varry Brava.
