Zara eliminates plastic bags and passes to 100% recycled paper


Zara will not return plastic bags to its customers, which it used to use in the sales periods, and will only use paper bags that, in addition, will soon be only 100% recycled paper. For it, is gradually adding to its stores a new format of recycled and reusable paper bags, that, in addition, incorporate the logo that has recently released on its website and that, for now has not revealed if it will be the one that represents it definitely.

The current paper bags will continue to be used until stocks run out and plastic bags will no longer be available as of February 15.

These new bags, which will be present in stores throughout the year, reduce the use of ink by more than 70% and represent a saving of more than 30% in water consumption during production, according to the company in a communication internal

Likewise, the gift envelopes will also be replaced and thus unify their image with the new bags and with the boxes of online orders of Zara, which adds about 2,250 stores.

All these actions are part of its Green to Pack project, whose main objective is to optimize the packaging used throughout the supply chain, and to reduce waste of any kind as much as possible.

According to company data, Inditex, a group to which Sara belongs and other brands such as Massimo Dutti or Bershka, has recycled 357 tons of clothing, footwear and accessories collected in its stores and offices since 2015.

In addition, it has collected 8,973 tons through containers located in Spanish streets and has recycled 1,010 million security alarms and 110 million hangers.
