The former President of the Government, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, has shown himself on Wednesday to establish a regulation of the debates on television in the electoral campaign for the next term, and he recalled that he participated in two face-to-face meetings with Mariano Rajoy.
Zapatero said, before the act 'Let's join for equality' together with the president of the Generalitat and PSPV candidate for re-election, Ximo Puig, that it is necessary to mark some "definitive rules" on the debates because there is always a problem, to be asked about the participation of Pedro Sánchez in the debate on RTVE.
It is good, he said, that there is an arbitrator to regulate and ensure in the debates the principles of proportionality and representativeness, in an electoral system "of the best in the world" in which the results are known quickly, there have been no challenges and it has allowed governing some parties and others.
For this reason, he has defended closing this issue of debates with a framework that guarantees representation and pluralism and also face-to-face debates, and has recalled that he participated in two debates with Rajoy that had "a large audience".
In his opinion, there is now a problem in the Spanish right and "we do not know very well which is the great party" of that political spectrum.
