"You, what are you doing here?", the point of no return in the Ferrera family

The businessman tried to redirect his daughters' relationship with his second wife, but an episode in the first quarter showed that it was impossible

It was in March of this year, at night. The doorbell rings at the house of businessman Ángel Ferrera Martínez, in the capital of Gran Canaria, and it is he,
suffering from terminal cancerwho, seeing some police officers at the door, asks them:
"You guys, what are you doing here?". The businessman knew the answer: one of his daughters had called reporting an alleged case of
domestic violencewith the employer as a victim.

That episode, reported by at least two people from the environment of the former president of the employers' association, the Chamber of Commerce and Unelco, among other positions, marked a point of no return in the Ferrera family. The sources consulted assure this newspaper that Ferrera then assumed that
the relationship with his daughters was irreducible and that the attempt to normalize coexistence between them and his second wife, María Ángeles Tavío, had failed and there was hardly any room for another attempt.
The complaint was filed. Ferrera refuted the suspicions of the daughters and justice agreed with the businessman and his wife. What happened? According to the version that corroborates the judicial decision,
there was an argument and movement of furniture. Nothing more. To place everything in her context, it should be noted that Ferrera's home is adjacent to those of her daughters, with common spaces.

Ferrera and Tavío married after the death of the businessman's first wife, Margarita Alonso, in 2007. That second wedding was not well digested by the daughters, but Ferrera trusted that time would smooth things over. However, the relationship gets complicated just when the businessman stumbles upon a
lung cancer and begins a long process of cancer treatments, with ups and downs in his health. The seriousness of the diagnosis initially suggested a rapid outcome, but the success of the treatments and strict adherence to them by Ferrera gave good results. In this context, her bitterness came from the family side, with
at least two complaints from the daughters against the former president of the Chamber of Commerce: the one already mentioned for alleged violence in the domestic sphere and another for, presumably, the supply of medicines or other substances that could accelerate the deterioration of their health. That is to say, the "poisoning" that the daughters have commented on these days in their environment and that they tried to demonstrate with the autopsy requested in court. That forensic analysis prevented the cremation last Tuesday and the widow awaits the delivery of the body, since samples of the corpse have been sent to Tenerife for toxicological analysis, which usually takes the procedure at least a week.

In any case, both the doctor who certified the death and the initial analysis at the Institute of Legal Medicine of Las Palmas concluded that
Ferrera died of cancer.

According to the comments of the daughters by WhatsApp to their relatives, they did not even know that their father had signed before a notary in his living will his wish to be cremated and that his ashes be deposited in the vault of the Ferrera family in the San Lázaro cemetery in the capital of Gran Canaria. It is not, therefore, a commitment of the widow, as they have written in her messages, but the
express wish of his father.

But beyond the differences between the daughters and the widow, there is an economic motivation in the dispute triggered by the descendants, according to sources close to the case. And this despite the fact that Ferrera, aware that the dispute was irreducible after the March episode, left her succession ordered.

As for the widow, she has the office of the lawyer Marcos García Latorre to defend her interests and they await the final forensic report to proceed with the cremation and then determine possible legal actions.

Regarding Ferrera's health in the last months of his life, the sources consulted by this newspaper maintain that until the end he suffered
"intense pain" that forced, always in agreement with their doctors, a
Palliative treatment. That is the trace that the forensics would find of him, after the patient and the oncology team that treated him agreed that, given the metastasis he suffered, with brain and bone disease, there was no longer room for new treatments.

Friends who visited him in recent days confirmed to this newspaper that Ferrera, always accompanied by his wife, was aware that his end was near and that he was saddened by the impossibility of his daughters normalizing the relationship, to the point that they did not they were going to see it and neither was the next generation.
