Women's lives', a retrospective of a photographer who descended into hell to immortalize them

A man dressed as Batman with three girls dressed as Barbie doll in a parade in New York, Nancy Spungen smoking a cigarette or a family that lives crammed into a car. Those are some of the images that can be seen in the exhibition Mary Ellen Mark: Women's Lives that until July 31 can be visited in the space of the Foto Colectania Foundation in Barcelona. In addition, the Filmoteca de Catalunya will present Streetwise (1983) and Tiny: The Life of Erin Blackwell (2015), two films that the photographer made with her husband, the filmmaker Martin Bell. The first was nominated for an Oscar.
Cristina de Middel, photographer: "You have to stop asking photography to be true because you don't ask literature or cinema"
