The French Arnaud demare (Groupama FDJ) achieved the sprint double by winning the sixth stage of the Italy spin, disputed between Castrovillari and Matera, of 188 kilometers, in which the Portuguese Joao almeida (Deceuninck Quick Step) kept leader’s pink jersey.

The 29-year-old French champion did not give his rivals a choice and raised his arms with authority with a time of 4h.54.38, ahead of Australian Michael Matthews (Sunweb) and Italian Fabio Felline (Astana).

The favorites entered the main block, with the Portuguese Joao Almeida in pink, followed in the general by the Spanish Pello Bilbao (Bahrain McLaren) at 43 seconds and by the Dutch Wilko Kelderman (Sunweb) at 48.

The day featured a four-man getaway who held out until the 15-kilometer mark to the finish line: Whelan (EF Pro Cycling), Frapporti (Vini Zabu), Bais (Androni) and Zana (Bardiani), at which time the teams the sprinters activated the protocol to play the stage for speed.

This Friday the seventh stage will take the peloton from Matera to Brindisi through 143 kilometers.
