The actor from Madrid Willy Toledo lands on Friday in the Gran Canaria capital to present the premiere of the film The king, the opera prima by Alberto San Juan, starring both actors with Luis Bermejo. The actor and activist will introduce the film in Multicines Monopol this afternoon, at 8:15 p.m., and will participate in a subsequent colloquium with the attending public at the end of the screening.
In addition, tomorrow, Saturday February 2, at 11.30 am, Willy Toledo will participate in the debate The political struggle through cinema and theater in the Trade Union Building of Las Palmas, located on Primero de Mayo Avenue, 21, along with writer and screenwriter Carlos Álvarez; the actor and Doctor in political theater Iván Alvarado; and the philologist and theater specialist Carmen Márquez.
For its part, the movie The king is a cinematographic adaptation of the theatrical work that Alberto San Juan himself signs, both produced by the cooperative Teatro del Barrio, promoted by San Juan himself, among others, in 2014. The plot traces an x-ray, with parodic brushstrokes, of the recent history of Spain, which gravitates over the King Emeritus Juan Carlos I and the past ghosts parade as Adolfo Suárez, Felipe González, Cebrián, Carrero Blanco, Salvador Puig Antich or Antonio Tejero. The trio of actors participating in the film unfolds in this theatrical staging to give life to this list of characters of the Spanish transition in this uncomfortable, risky and anti-monarchical film experiment.
