Why there are so many herds

Why there are so many herds

Many are the social indicators that they encourage despair. Maybe it should be the other way around and that time should reverse what one day seemed impossible. But no. Today, there has been a accused decrease in the affiliation of Social Security and a notable increase in unemployment; near 1,400,000 children live under the shelter of severe poverty, and something more than 2,000,000 flirt with the high risk of suffering it; There are already seven sexist murders in the 39 days of 2019. A tragic phenomenon revolves around the latter: Since 2016, the first sexual assault in a group in San Fermín was recorded by the so-called "La Herda". There are already twenty events recorded by groups of four to ten men three years apart.

Why does this happen? The psychologist and technical director of Origin Clinics, Pilar Conde, try to find an explanation for this fact, and support his thesis in the culture of imitation. Certain masculine groups believe to exert power over women, and consider that "the fact that the absence of consideration of aggression has been reported has been able to reinforce certain false beliefs in which women has been a consent"

But the focus can not be placed only on the media. Machismo seems to be more alive than ever among men, and the fact that some of them suffer from lack of self-esteem translates into a feeling of dominance over women through manipulation and violence. The fact of doing it in a group gives a feeling of protection: everyone thinks that responsibility is shared among all and, in addition, they believe that the impact of the seriousness of their actions diminishes. According to the psychologist, they are people who "need to feel that they are more powerful and can perform acts of humiliation without suffering consequences."

Another relevant fact that the specialist talks about is the recordings of the violations. For her, there is a need to demonstrate that she is above the negative consequences: "they believe they are indestructible, that are above the law and that nothing will happen to them. On the other hand, they like to relive the humiliation committed, which reflects pleasure in the execution of the act, as well as keep memories of the feat performed and boast of it, "says Pilar Conde.

Is it possible to renew these people? For the psychologist, the personal history of each individual separately and the external signs of guilt or regret are fundamental for their social integration. But nevertheless, "it will be very difficult if one perceives in them an affective coldness or lack of empathy"
