The great acceptance that they found, led them to open the first mobility service of this type in Madrid, a year later. According to company data, the followers of eCooltra are already 500,000, distributed in the five cities in which it operates (in addition to the capital and Barcelona, ​​are also in Lisbon, Rome and Milan).

In Barcelona, ​​there are a thousand Govecs motorcycles, of German manufacture, with two helmets, an autonomy of 50 kilometers and a displacement equivalent to 49 cubic centimeters, which limits its speed to 45 kilometers per hour. To drive them, you will need an AM-type driving license (mopeds).

Motorcycles, as well as customer service and maintenance, are available every day of the week, 24 hours a day. The scooter can be picked up and left in a place where it is possible to park these vehicles in the service area. "We have the largest fleet," says Muñoz, "so there will always be availability."

Driving an eCooltra motorcycle will mean the payment of 26 cents per minute, although there are packs of 100, 250 and 500 minutes, which bring the cost down to 23, 21, and 19 cents per minute, respectively.

Muving, powerful and fast

More than a year later, on September 15, 2017, the two pioneers in Barcelona joined Muving, which now has about 30,000 registered users in Barcelona, ​​60,000 in Madrid, and another 210,000 distributed between Valencia, Seville, Córdoba, Granada, Malaga, Cádiz, Murcia, Zaragoza and Puerto de Santa María. Scoot, the multimodal

The last one to sail the streets of Barcelona with its 500 red Silence electric motorcycles has been Scoot, which started operating five months ago. "We chose these bikes because they have a power equivalent to 125 cubic centimeters and an autonomy of approximately 100 kilometers," says Scoot marketing director Anna Juan. Their speed is limited to 80 kilometers per hour and, for their displacement, they require the A1 motorcycle license or the car license (B) with more than three years of experience.

At the moment, the area in which it is possible to find or park Scoot motorcycles -which have two helmets of different sizes and two USB ports- excludes some neighborhoods in the upper part of Barcelona, ​​but includes Hospitalet de Fira and the City of Barcelona. Justice. The service is available every day, at any time and costs 1 euro when unlocking the scooter and 20 cents per minute, although the company is considering a change in its pricing policy.

His rental bikes -whose fleet has 750 copies- is the main competitive advantage of Scoot that Juan points out. "We are the only service that offers different vehicles in a single app and users can drive both from the same account," he concludes.

A different mobility model

If the shared bikes are already part of Barcelona's urban panorama, Barcelona has not yet developed a system of carsharing (car per minute) comparable to Madrid. This is in fact rental vehicles that are usually found in underground parking and can be reserved and used for hours or all day. But then you have to return them to the same place where they were collected, a completely different concept than the one applied in the capital.

"You should bet on the car for minutes as a service, but this should not completely replace the private car or public transport," warns the director of the Agència de Ecologia Urbana de Barcelona, ​​Salvador Rueda.
