The messaging applicationWhatsApphas entered anew limit for forwarded messagesmultiple times, whereby it is now possible to share only once per chat or group to avoid overwhelming forwarding anddisinformation.
This measure applies to ‘highly forwarded messages’, which since last year have been detected by the application and identified with a double arrow icon to indicate that they do not originate in the user’s environment.
“We have seen a significant increasein the amount of forwarding that users consider can be overwhelming and can contribute to spreading disinformation, “WhatsApp has reported in a statement sent to Europa Press.
To reduce the transmission of these messages, from now on it will only be possible to share a highly forwarded message once per chat.
The limit on message forwarding to only once per group comes after the app has already restricted the number of times it is possibleshare a message to 20 simultaneously, and even five in countries like India. This led to a 25% decrease in message forwarding globally at the time, according to the company.
Likewise, WhatsApp has recalled its collaboration with NGOs, theWorld Health Organizationand more than 20 ministries of health to send messages directly to the population and toavoid spreading hoaxeson the platform, something for which it has an information center through its Facebook matrixabout the Covid-19.
