Pope Francis on Monday denounced violence against women around the world and assured that these cases are “a degradation for all humanity”, in a video in Spanish in which he dedicates the monthly prayer in February to this problem.
“The different forms of mistreatment suffered by many women are cowardice and degradation for all humanity. For men and for all humanity,” the pontiff denounced.
In the statement, Francisco denounces the “psychological, verbal, physical and sexual” violence suffered by women throughout the world and has lamented the impressive “number of women beaten, offended, raped”.
In this sense, the video has indicated that the testimony “of the victims who dare to break their silence are a cry for help” that cannot be ignored. “We cannot look the other way,” he reiterated.
Faced with this scourge, the pope has encouraged his faithful to pray for women victims of violence. “So that they are protected by society and so that their suffering is considered and heard by all,” he has settled.
