According to weather forecasts, the greatest intensity of wind, rain and swell will take place between this noon and the next midnight.

This front is framed in the storm of Levante and Gregal that affects the entire Mediterranean coast and the Balearic Islands.

The maritime storm is hitting the entire coast with great intensity, but it will be especially virulent this afternoon between the Delta of Llobregat and the Cape of Creus, with waves of 5 meters of average height when touching the coast, which means that it can reach 6 meters, and even more, offshore.

Rain until tomorrow

According to the SMC, the phenomenon of heavy rains will last until tomorrow morning, with special intensity until midnight, with accumulations that can reach up to 100 liters per square meter in 24 hours in all the regions of Girona and southern Terres de l'Ebre.

As for the intensity of the rain, the latest forecasts indicate that “locally very intense” nuclei can originate in the coastal facade this afternoon and night, especially on the coast of Barcelona and Costa Brava.

Possible growth

The Catalan Water Agency has warned of possible sudden floods of rivers and streams and the increase in the flow of the main rivers of Girona and Barcelona, ​​especially those of the Ter, Muga, Fluvià, Daró, Onyar, Tordera, Besòs and Llobregat basins . In addition, flood problems can be aggravated at the mouths by strong sea waves.

For its part, the Ebro Hydrographic Confederation has warned of possible flash floods in the ravines of the Ports de Besseit area. Civil Protection has asked the municipalities to close access to rivers and streams and monitor the evolution of the flows until tomorrow.

As for the wind, meteorologists expect significant maximum gusts, especially between 6:00 p.m. and midnight, of up to 90 kilometers per hour at coastal points and high pre-coastal areas.

Civil Protection has asked the railway operators Ferrocarriles de la Generalitat, ADIF and Renfe to carry out preventive actions to be able to anticipate incidents that may affect the movement of trains and serve the affected passengers.
