viruses do not attenuate over time

Since the start of the pandemic, people have heard of the possible attenuation of the SARS-CoV-2. The theory is intuitive: when a virus finds a new host, it is not adapted to it. If it kills it too quickly it will not be able to transmit before and will disappear, since it needs to kidnap living cells to multiply and survive. Therefore, over time the evolutionary race wins the least harmful viruses. Some doctors believe that this is already happening with the coronavirus, although the evidence in its favor is anecdotal. Experts in ecology, evolution and virus genetics disagree with this often repeated dogma.
