Virgin Australia airline announced on Wednesday the temporary suspension of all its international flights until June 14, due to travel restrictions and falling demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The company also indicated in a statement more restrictions on domestic routes.
The measure coincides with the announcement by the Australian government to maximize travel restrictions, thus prohibiting travel abroad for all citizens and indefinitely.
The previous day the Australian airline Qantas indicated that it will reduce its international capacity by 90 percent and national capacity by 60%, which implies leaving 150 planes on the ground.
Australia has confirmed 454 patients infected with the new coronavirus and 5 deaths related to this disease.
