The executive committee of the Gran Teatro del Liceu, meeting today, has appointed Víctor García de Gomar as the future artistic director of the institution, once the current director, Christina Scheppelmann, leaves office at the end of the 2018-2019 season, as reported by in a statement the center.
The new position has been selected from among 16 nominations, three women and thirteen men, to a public contest of merits.
A commission of nine experts, chaired by Salvador Alemany, at the head of the Theater Foundation, has been commissioned to study the different proposals.
The full incorporation of De Gomar will take place in September, coinciding with the start of the 2019/2020 season. This calendar, according to the theater, will allow "an orderly transition" with the current director, and will also facilitate the organization in the Palau de la Música, where García del Gomar holds the position of assistant artistic director since 2011.
The jury of experts has valued Garcia de Gomar's experience in musical equipment, especially in the Palau de la Música, which has allowed him to gain knowledge and establish a very extensive relational network at an international level in the music and opera sector.
