The Dutch pilot Max verstappen (Red Bull) set the best time in the first free practice session of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix in front of the Ferraris of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz, while Fernando Alonso (Alpine) started the weekend in ninth position.

The sixth round of the Formula 1 World Championship started with Verstappen, brand new championship leader, showing gallons and stopping the timer at 1: 43.184. The Dutchman has a thorn in the street circuit of Baku, where he has never managed to get on the podium, and he started his goal of removing it well.

Very close, at only 43 thousandths, he was placed with Leclerc, wanting to vindicate himself after his fiasco in Monaco, and three tenths behind finished Sainz. After his second place in the last race, the Madrilenian continues in good spirits and Ferrari opens with foot a weekend where he expects difficulties to shine.

Sergio Pérez's fourth position confirmed Red Bull and Ferrari as the best teams for now, since Mercedes finished far from the top positions. Thus, Lewis Hamilton was seventh and Valtteri Bottas tenth, although these results are expected to improve in the next session.

Ahead was fifth Daniel Ricciardo (McLaren) and sixth Pierre Gasly (Alpha Tauri), while Lando Norris (McLaren) and Fernando Alonso also entered the 'Top 10'. The Spaniard lost 1.6 seconds with respect to the best time in a session marked by the numerous track exits of the pilots and some touch with the wall, but nothing without consequences.

Lewis hamilton, seven-time world champion, set the seventh time, seven tenths, while his partner in Mercedes, the Finn Valtteri Bottas, was tenth.
