Venezuela negotiates to refine its gold in Turkey

The Minister of Industry and Commerce of Venezuela, Tareck El Aissami, met Friday in Ankara with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to discuss the possible refining of Venezuelan gold in Turkey and the development of other economic treaties, the agency reported. Anadolu.
The Aissami had visited the city of Çorum a day earlier, in the center of the country, where there are several gold refining plants that Caracas shuffles.
Turkey has become the largest importer of non-monetary gold in Venezuela, after the South American country stopped trading with Switzerland because of the sanctions that weigh on the South American country.
"We want to send oil from Venezuela to Turkey, we will also cooperate in gold, mining, agriculture and other fields," El Aissami said Thursday during his visit to Çorum, according to Anadolu.
Last year, the volume of trade between the two countries reached 892 million dollars.
Erdogan visited Caracas at the beginning of December 2018 together with a large delegation of businessmen.
Turkey has been one of the few countries to send a high-level representation to the recent inauguration of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro for a new term.
