Valls invites Sánchez, Casado and Rivera to "talk and agree" on great issues
The former French prime minister and candidate for mayor of Barcelona, Manuel Valls, has invited Pedro Sánchez, Pablo Casado and Albert Rivera, the "three young leaders" of PSOE, PP and Ciudadanos, to "speak, respect and agree" on the "great challenges" posed in Spain and Europe.
In statements to Efe, Valls has warned that, if the "big constitutionalist parties" are not able to understand each other on issues such as the challenge of immigration or the unity of Spain, "they leave an incredible space for populism and nationalism."
"These three young leaders must speak: Pedro Sánchez, Albert Rivera and Pablo Casado," the Mayor has insisted on Barcelona, to whom Citizens has already offered their support but not the PSC and the PPC.
According to Valls, "they will not be understood in everything, but if those who were the 'fathers' of the 1978 Constitution or the decisive actors of the Transition were able to agree, when their differences were much more important," now, if there is " political will "and respect in the" tone ", they too can get to understand each other.
Although "there will always be debates between the left and the right, between progressives and conservatives," he remarked, the leaders of the "great constitutionalist parties, who have governed or want to govern," must "speak and then have to agree".
"Faced with these serious challenges, despite these differences, the only appeal, the only advice I can give is to speak, to agree," Valls insisted, who has expressed his conviction that "pacts and coalitions will be necessary, here in Barcelona and in the rest of Spain ".
Valls recalled that at European level, the big parties united to "punish" the Hungarian government of Viktor Orbán "for not respecting fundamental freedoms and the separation of powers."
In his opinion, they should leave aside the crossing of "accusations" and, in this sense, has highlighted that "Citizens have received accusations that are unbearable."
Valls, for example, would have liked Citizens, Fernando Savater and the victims of ETA "to have received more samples of" solidarity after what happened "a few days ago in Alsasua.
