Up to 417 dead in Mozambique by the passage of cyclone Idai



Those killed by the passage of cyclone Idai in Mozambique have gone from 294 to 417, according to the latest figures from the National Institute of Emergency Management, putting the total number of deaths in the three affected countries in more than 600.

Most of the victims counted so far, 301, occurred in the province of Sofala, in the center of Mozambique, especially in the city of Beira, where the figures for deceased already amount to 123.

Cyclone Idai, a Category 4 weather phenomenon, made landfall in central Mozambique on March 14 with winds of more than 170 kilometers per hour, and continued to advance inland through Zimbabwe on Friday.
