Curated by the Swiss historian Katrin Steffen, The exhibition addresses the multiple spaces of creation that the Lanzarote artist developed throughout his life. Manrique was not only a qualified professional painter, sculptor, designer, landscaper or self-taught architect, but also stood out as a mediator, entrepreneur, educator and environmental activist.

The exhibition brings together a wide selection of about 200 works by the artist from Lanzarote, including paintings, sketches, drawings, collages and sculptures, as well as his designs, works as interior designer, mural paintings, architectural interventions or their homes. It also incorporates photographs and documents from various archives that represent the context of his creative world.

The exhibition also discovers a valuable unpublished material, coming from different personal files, that brings us closer to a César Manrique who talks and reflects on his work and his life. Two works by Néstor Martín Fernández de la Torre from the Néstor Museum in Las Palmas dialogue with his works in a space dedicated to his first creative stages, and the Gastón y Daniela headquarters in Madrid has done a reissue of one of the artist's designs for This house from the 50s.

The museography or design of this exhibition has been in charge of the artist Pedro Déniz and the filmmaker Miguel G.Morales is responsible for the important and essential set of audiovisuals that are exhibited in this project. The team of architects Álvarez, Álvarez and Navarro has collaborated with the model in 3D printing of the Monument to the Peasant, as well as a high number of qualified professionals.

Universe Manrique, in the words of his curator, is an invitation to participate in the creative cosmos of this total artist and it is part of a framework of thought guided by its fascination with the natural beauty of Lanzarote, the need to show it to the world and the inescapable obligation of its preservation for future generations.

A large group of artists have collaborated in different ways in this great exhibition project. Ildefonso Aguilar, Rubén Acosta, Santiago Morilla and the PSJM team (Pablo San José and Cynthia Viera) present their own creations, in different formats and techniques, which coexist in the exhibition with reproductions of emblematic pieces by Manrique, made by the artists Luna Bengoechea, Acaymo Cuesta, Moneiba Lemes and José Otero.

The exhibition Universe Manrique It unfolds along the four floors, the attic and the facade of the CAAM, and can be visited until next September 29, in the regular hours of the center, from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., and Sundays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with free admission.
