Unemployment rises by 20,525 people, the biggest increase in November since 2016 – La Provincia

Henumber of unemployed registered in the offices of public employment services(formerly Inem) rose by 20,525 unemployed in November (+ 0.6%), its biggest increase this month since 2016, when it increased by 24,841 people.

After the rebound in November, the fourth in a row after August, September and October,the total volume of unemployed was 3,198,184 unemployed,its lowest level in a month of November since 2008, as reported on Tuesday by the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security.

Within the historical series of November, which begins in 1996, unemployment has risen 20 times and has fallen four times, the last one last year, when it was reduced by 1,836 people.The rebound in November this year is the most pronounced since 2016, although, according to Work, this increase practically equals the average increase in this month in the last ten years (+20,477 unemployed).

In seasonally adjusted terms, unemployment rose 4,113 people in the penultimate month of the year.

The services sector was the one that increased the number of unemployed in November, with an increase of 23,934 unemployed (+ 1%), followed by construction (+1,738 unemployed, + 0.7%). The rest of the sectors reduced their number of unemployed. Thus, unemployment fell by 2,825 people in the group without previous employment (-1%), 1,715 people in agriculture (-1,1%) and 607 people in industry (-0,2%).

In the last year,unemployment has been reduced by 54,683 people, at an interannual rate of 1.68%, a rate that has moderated almost seven tenths compared to last month, when unemployment fell at an interannual rate of 2.37%, equivalent to just over 77,000 fewer unemployed.

Upload more in men and in 12 communities

Heunemployment rose in November in both sexes,although more among men, with 13,549 more unemployed (+ 1.04%), compared to a rise in female unemployment of 6,976 women (+ 0.4%). Thus, at the end of November, the number of unemployed women stood at 1,880,498 and the number of men, at 1,317,686.

By ages,Unemployment among young people under 25 years fell 0.2%in relation to the previous month, with 704 fewer unemployed, while unemployment of people 25 years and older increased by 21,229 unemployed (+ 0.7%).

Unemploymentrose in November in twelve autonomous communitiesand fell in Comunidad Valenciana (-3,807 unemployed), Madrid (-2,855), Basque Country (-1,564), Castilla-La Mancha (-1,228) and Aragón (-12 unemployed). The greatest promotions, on the other hand, were registered in the Balearic Islands (+11,557 unemployed) and Andalusia (+7,501 unemployed).

By provinces, unemployment was reduced by 22 of them, led by Valencia (-4,809 unemployed), Madrid (-2,855) and Jaén (-2,312 unemployed), and rose 30, mainly in the Balearic Islands (+11,557 unemployed) and Malaga (+5,649 unemployed).

Among foreigners, unemployment rose by 12,757 people in November compared to the previous month (+ 3.2%), to a total of 403,848 unemployed. In year-on-year terms there are 2,011 more unemployed (+ 0.5%) than in November 2018.

Indefinite hiring down 13%

Regarding contracting, 1,764,169 contracts were made in the penultimate month of the year, 5.5% less than in November 2018, of which171,612 were indefinite contracts, 9.7% of the total, with a decrease of 13.1% compared to the same month last year.

Of the total indefinite contracts made in November, full-time contracts totaled 101,384, 13% less than in the same month of 2018, while indefinite part-time contracts totaled 70,228, with an interannual decrease of 13.4%.

In November they were heldmore than 1.58 million temporary contracts, of which 25.3% were full-time work or service and 27.2%, possibly due to production circumstances, also full-time. Temporary part-time contracts represented 32.1%.
