Unemployment in Argentina reaches 9% in the third quarter
Unemployment reached 9% of the Argentine population in the third quarter of this year, with an interannual increase of 7 tenths, according to data released today by the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC).
Despite the year-on-year rise, the unemployment rate for the third quarter of the year was six tenths below that registered in the second quarter of 2018, which had been 9.6%.
According to official figures, the underemployment rate for the third quarter of the year stood at 11.8%, while that for employed persons who demanded employment was 16.7%.
Argentina registered a maximum unemployment of 24.1% in the second quarter of 2002, after the outbreak of one of the worst economic, political and social crises that the southern country has experienced.
