Unemployment falls in the Canary Islands by 0.11% in March - The Province


The number of unemployed registered in the offices of the public employment services (former Inem) in the Canary Islandshas fallen in 231 people in March, which has meant a monthly fall of just 0.11 percent, placing 209,235 unemployed, according to the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Social Security.

In the interannual figure, however, the decline in unemployment in the archipelago was set at 2.12 percent with respect to March 2018, which in absolute terms involved 4,533 fewer people in the lists of unemployment in the archipelago in this last year.

Thus of the total number of unemployed people currently in the Canary Islands, women are still the majority, reaching 117,691 unemployed, unlike the 91,544 men who are unemployed in the archipelago. On the other hand, minors under 25 years of age are placed at 14,240 people.

Regarding the sectors, unemployment only fell in March in Industry and Services sector, where in 81 and 487 people respectively. In this way, the total number of unemployed in Industry was set at 7,959 people, while Services continues to be the one with the highest number of unemployed in the Canary Islands, up to 158,161 people.

By contrast, the other sectors increased the number of unemployed last month, as Agriculture grew by 191 people (4,615 unemployed in total), followed by people without previous employment where it increased by 119 unemployed people (17,464) and Construction where it rose in 27 unemployed (21,036).

CONTRACTS

In terms of contracting, the Canary Islands registered in March a total of 65,914 agreements, which implied a growth of 5,519 contracts (+ 9,14%) with respect to the previous month; However, in the year-on-year figure there was a decrease of 135 agreements (-0.20%).

Thus, of the total contracts registered in March, 7,888 were of an indefinite nature, while the remaining 58,026 were temporary contracts.

In relation to the indefinite ones, in the Canary Islands they increased in March in 327 contracts (+ 4.32%) in relation to the previous month, although in the year-on-year figure there was a fall of 2,091 agreements (-20.95%).

On the other hand, temporary contracts grew both monthly and interannually, since they increased by 5,192 contracts in relation to February of this year (+ 9.83%), while in the interannual figure they increased by 1,956 agreements (+3.49). %).

IN SPAIN THERE ARE 3.2 MILLION PARADOXES

On the other hand, in the national set the number of unemployed fell by 33,956 unemployed in March (-1%), its lowest decrease in this month since 2014, when it decreased by 16,620 people. The cut recorded in March of this year does not exceed the decreases experienced in 2015 (-60,214 unemployed), 2016 (-58,216 unemployed) 2017 (-48,559 unemployed) and 2018 (-47,697 unemployed).

In the last year, unemployment has been reduced by 167,467 people, at an inter-annual rate of 4.89%.

In seasonally adjusted terms, unemployment fell by 12,692 in March compared to the previous month, according to Labor.

GOES UP IN WOMEN AND YOUTH AND IN NINE COMMUNITIES

The drop in unemployment in March was noticeable especially in services, which subtracted 32,401 unemployed (-1.4%), followed by construction, with 4,555 fewer unemployed (-1.7%), and the industry, which registered 4,000 unemployed less (-1.4%). In contrast, unemployment rose in the group without previous employment (+5,278 unemployed, + 1.9%) and in agriculture (+1 722 unemployed more, + 1.1%).

Unemployment declined in March in both sexes, although more among men, with 21,328 fewer unemployed (-1.6%), compared to a decrease in female unemployment of 12,628 women (-0.6%). Thus, at the end of March, the number of unemployed women stood at 1,916,187 and that of men at 1,338,897.

By age, unemployment among young people under 25 fell by 0.6% in March compared to the previous month, with 1,661 fewer unemployed, while unemployment for people aged 25 and over decreased by 32,295 unemployed (-1 %).

Unemployment fell in March in all the autonomous communities except in La Rioja, where it rose by 119 unemployed. The biggest setbacks were recorded in Andalusia (-8,040 unemployed), Comunidad Valenciana (-5,002 unemployed) and Baleares (-3,364 unemployed).

By province, unemployment was reduced in 46 of them, led by the Balearic Islands (-3,364 unemployed), Huelva (-3,194 unemployed) and Alicante (-2,896 unemployed), and rose in six, mainly in Jaén (+2,215 unemployed) and Barcelona (+849)

Among foreigners, unemployment fell by 2,692 in March compared to the previous month (-0.6%), to a total of 402,683 unemployed. In year-on-year terms, 14,067 fewer unemployed (-3.4%) than in March 2018.

CONTRACTS INCREASE, BUT NOT THE INDEFINITE ones

Regarding hiring, in the third month of the year, 1,709,848 contracts were made, 3.8% more than in March 2018, of which 179,821 were permanent contracts, 10.5% of the total, with a decrease 7% compared to the same month last year.

Of the total number of permanent contracts made in March, full-time contracts totaled 108,755, 4.1% less than in the same month of 2018, while part-time permanent contracts totaled 71,066, with an interannual decrease of 11.2%. %.

In March, more than 1.5 million temporary contracts were carried out, of which 26.8% were for work or service with full-time work and 26.6%, eventual due to production circumstances, also full-time . Temporary part-time contracts represented 30.6%.
