UEFA asks for the recusal of judge Ruiz de Lara in the 'Superliga case'
UEFA has announced this Tuesday that it has presented a motion to challenge the head of the Mercantile Court number 17 in Madrid, Manuel Ruiz de Lara, who presides over the procedure on the so-called Super League. The highest continental football organization has announced that "it will also present a formal appeal to a higher court, the Provincial Court of Madrid." In addition, he has asked that, in line "with Spanish law" and in the "fundamental interest" of justice, the judge be immediately separated "until this motion is fully and adequately considered."
"UEFA has always acted in good faith throughout the proceedings pending before a Madrid Court. Consequently - and despite the fact that UEFA does not recognize the jurisdiction of the Madrid Court and firmly believes that it has always acted in full compliance with pending proceedings— UEFA has presented formal allegations to the Madrid Court evidencing its continuous compliance with the orders, "says the European body in a statement in which it defends that it has always acted in accordance with EU and Swiss legislation, according to Europa Press.
This statement comes a day after it was learned that UEFA will not proceed with legal proceedings against Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Juventus de Turin, the three 'surviving' teams of the initial twelve that supported the Superliga. Previously, the judge in charge of the case, Manuel Ruiz de Lara, had ordered the possible fine of 100 million euros against each of the 12 clubs in the project promoted by the president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez, to be waived. He had given UEFA a period of five days to annul the proceedings against these three clubs.
