Uber has chosen Madrid as the first European city to launch its electric scooter service, Jump. The company has deployed a total of 566 scooters in the different neighborhoods of the capital, which can be rented directly from the app.
"This is the first step towards our vision for Madrid and hundreds of cities around the world: to become a platform where the user can choose how he wants to travel according to his needs, and can combine different means of transport in the same way", Said Christian Freese, CEO of Jump by Uber in EMEA.
Freese says the company is "very excited" to start this adventure in Madrid, a city "committed to new mobility alternatives that replace the use of private vehicles" -adds the director-.
To start using the service, users they just have to update their application. Those who have not yet installed the Uber app only need to download it, register and access with your username and password. Through this service users will receive information related to municipal regulations and the main elements to reinforce safety in the use of the electric scooter.
Users must pay 1 euro to unlock the electric scooter and 12 extra cents per minute. During the first month, the user will have 10 free minutes, explains the company through a statement.
The Uber electric scooters are distributed in the districts of Centro, Arganzuela, Retiro, Salamanca, Chamartín, Tetuán, Chamberí, Fuencarral-El Pardo, Moncloa-Aravaca, La Latina, Carabanchel, Usera, Puente de Vallecas, Moratalaz, Ciudad Lineal, Hortaleza and San Blas-Canillejas.
