Two people died, destruction and material damage this Friday left the passage of a tornado, whose speed ranged between 180 and 220 kilometers per hour, in the state of Nuevo León, northern Mexico, authorities reported.

"A drastic change in temperature that went from 37 to 21 degrees Celsius with the entry of the Cold Front Number 60 was the main cause of the phenomenon," Miguel Ángel Gallegos, deputy manager of Meteorology of the National Meteorological Service, explained to Efe.

The specialist pointed out that the cold front was crossed with instabilities in the upper layers, the trough or low pressure channel and also the very high temperatures in the region.

"Tentatively we have a speed that goes from 180 to 220 kilometers per hour, that would give a range of an F2 tornado, since this classification is in accordance exactly with the damage that occurs," he said.

The force of the tornado lifted and overturned a dozen trailers, as well as smashed sheet roofs of companies whose remains flew long distances, falling near homes with the risk of injuring the inhabitants, as seen in videos shared by citizens on networks. social.

About 30 kilometers away, in the city of Cadereyta, the gusts of wind knocked down a tree that collapsed on a 40-year-old man, who also died.

The expert said that according to the images of the damage caused by the phenomenon, the fact that more than one tornado has occurred in the state is analyzed, in addition to another that was reported in the state of Puebla a few days ago.

"We do not rule out that also over the weekend another such system can be repeated in Puebla, since the Cold Front is also going to move around in the northern part of this state," he warned.

The Cold Front Number 60 entered the northwestern state of Nuevo León at 3:00 p.m. with rains, electrical activity and gusts of wind of up to 115 kilometers per hour, according to the state agency.

The intensity was increasing and the storm reached most of the metropolitan area causing, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., dozens of reports of fallen trees, poles, cables and other dangerous objects.

In Santa Catarina, a hill was washed away at kilometer 65 of the Saltillo-Monterrey Highway, without leaving any injuries, while in the center of the capital the collapse of the roof of a business caused injuries to four people, including a minor.
