Two dead and hundreds evicted by the explosion of a fuel plant in Calahorra

An explosion at a biodiesel plant in the industrial area of ​​Calahorra, in La Rioja, has cost the lives of two people. According to the Government Delegation, in statements collected by the newspaper larioja.comthe explosion has forced the eviction of hundreds of people, including 250 children who were on a school visit in the area.

The event has been recorded in the industrial estate of El Recuenco, where several crews of firefighters, health personnel and police have moved. The adjoining Tejerías estate has also been evicted.

The Calahorra City Council has asked the public to vacate the estates due to the existence of "risk of explosion" and so that the emergency services can work.

A huge column of black smoke is visible from several kilometers away. The site of the explosion is located near the nature theme park 'Rapacious Earth'. Images of fire and smoke are being posted on social networks by different users.
