Turkish state airline Turkish Airlines (THY) announced Friday that it has suspended all its air connections with China from today until February 9, due to the expansion of the coronavirus in that country.
According to the airline, which is among the 20 largest in the world, all flights to Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai and Xian are canceled.
THY’s decision coincides with the dispatch of a Turkish military plane to the city of Wuhan – the center of the coronavirus – to evacuate 49 people, including 34 Turks, as well as Georgian, Azerbaijani and Albanian citizens.
The evacuees will be quarantined for 14 days upon their return to Turkey.
With the decision to suspend its flights to China Turkish Airlines follows the example of numerous other European and American airlines.
