Trump rules out withdrawing tariffs imposed on China

"China would like there to be a reduction, but I have not agreed on anything … They frankly want to reach an agreement more than I want," said the president of the US country this Friday.

He also said that China would be interested in a partial reduction of tariffs, rather than the complete elimination of levies, because Beijing "knows" that he would not be willing to reach that much.

On Thursday, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce announced that the two powers had reached an agreement to reduce the tariffs that had been imposed on each other in recent months.

Washington and Beijing planned to sign the first phase of their trade agreement this year in the framework of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Forum (APEC), which was to be held in Chile in mid-November. However, the wave of protests in the Latin American country forced its president, Sebastián Piñera, to cancel the meeting.

Both blocks have not yet agreed on where the treaty will be signed. Nor have they confirmed that the rubric will take place in 2019.
