US President Donald Trump today congratulated his Mexican counterpart, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who assumed the Mexican Presidency on December 1, and described his electoral victory as "tremendous" last July.
"Congratulations to the newly invested Mexican President López Obrador, he had a tremendous political victory with the support of the Mexican people, we will work well together for many years to come!" Trump said in his official Twitter account.
This was the first message that Trump dedicated to López Obrador since his inauguration this Saturday, in which the US was represented by a delegation headed by the vice president, Mike Pence, and by the daughter and adviser to the president, Ivanka Trump.
In his first speech, López Obrador thanked the "respectful treatment" received by Trump since winning the Mexican elections.
Also, the leftist leader explained today that he will seek a "tripartite investment" agreement with the United States and Canada to invest in Central America and face the migration phenomenon.
For its part, the new Mexican Foreign Minister, Marcelo Ebrard, said today that he has perceived a "good starting environment" in the relationship with the United States. during his meetings in Washington with his counterpart, Mike Pompeo, and the US Secretary of National Security, Kirstjen Nielsen.
