US President Donald Trump today congratulated Princess Eugenia de York, granddaughter of Queen Elizabeth II of England, on her wedding, but was wrong to suggest that the ceremony took place on Saturday, when it was actually Friday.
"Princess Eugenia de York was a truly beautiful girlfriend yesterday, she has gone through a lot and has come out as a total winner!" Trump said on his Twitter account today.
Eugenia de York and businessman Jack Brooksbank were married on Friday at the medieval castle of Windsor, just outside London, in a ceremony before more than 800 guests.
Princess Eugenia wore a white dress by Peter Pilotto and Christopher De Vos, which she accompanied with earrings of diamonds and emeralds, a gift from the groom.
The dress, almost medieval in style, had a neckline in front and in the back, a detail especially requested by Princess Eugenia to show the mark she has on the back of the surgery she underwent when she was 12 years old to correct her scoliosis, a lateral deviation of the spine.
Princess Eugenia, 28, and Brooksbank, 31, met during a skiing holiday in Switzerland in 2010 and got engaged in Nicaragua earlier this year.
