Tourist activity in hotels in the month of April was null due to the closure of hotel establishments during the state of alarm, which makes the economic indicators published this Friday by the National Statistics Institute (INE) end with zeros .
The mandatory closure of hotels since last March 26 means that the data for April on the number of open establishments, places available, rooms available, travelers received and overnight stays are zero throughout the national territory.
Likewise, since there is no income due to tourist activities, the average daily rate (ADR) and income per available room (RevPAR) are also zero.
Although there were some hotels open to provide accommodation for essential service workers, according to European regulations, these establishments are considered not to be carrying out any tourist activity, so their flows are not part of the Hotel Situation Survey.
In March, overnight stays in hotels plummeted by 61.1%, the worst figure since these data began to be recorded in 1999, and the number of employees fell by 31%, as a result of the total stoppage of activity that occurred after the decree of the state of alarm to face the coronavirus pandemic.
