Torra says he cannot be “happy or satisfied” in the face of the COVID-19 crisis

The President of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, has stated that, despite the “great effort” of his Executive, he cannot be “happy or satisfied” with the “drama” of COVID-19, with so many lives lost for which he has I asked for a minute of silence in the plenary session of the Parliament.

This is how Torra’s intervention began in the monographic plenary session of the Catalan chamber on the health, social and economic crisis of the coronavirus, requested by the president himself and by the group of Citizens.

“We cannot be happy or satisfied. In the face of a human drama with the loss of so many lives, complacency today is not part of the way to start a debate on the serious health, economic and social crisis,” said Torra.

In this sense, he has warned that if any ruler wears “medals” or “boasts” of his administration, it is necessary to “distrust”.

Torra has expressed in any case that, in the face of the “inclement” attack by COVID-19, the Government has made a “great effort” to save lives, which has also been possible thanks to the “collective network of solidarity, commitment and talent “with which Catalan citizens have responded.

The president has interrupted his speech to ask for a minute of silence from the camera, which the few parliamentarians who follow the debate from within the chamber have complied with, due to the security protocols derived from the pandemic.
