Torra calls to consume local products in the face of the coronavirus crisis

The President of the Generalitat, Quim Torra, called this Saturday to consume local products and give them "all the value they deserve" in the face of the coronavirus crisis, which he believes has shown that farmers and producers in the food chain are " essential. "

Torra has inaugurated this Saturday by videoconference from the Palau de la Generalitat the first online edition of the Falset Wine Fair, in the Tarragona region of Priorat, to which he attended in person last year, without the restrictions of coronavirus mobility.

"Now more than ever, it is time to believe in what we do, in ourselves, on the land. We have to consume local products, from our home. We have to give it all the value they deserve," Torra said in his speech. .

According to the President of the Generalitat, "if one thing has valued" the crisis caused by the coronavirus has been the "importance" of the peasant sector and of the producers of the food chain.

"You are essential. The health crisis will pass, but the esteem for the land and the quality of the wines will last, as it should be," he insisted.

Torra has acknowledged that local producers are making a "huge" effort to keep "the epidemic at bay", which he has appreciated.

The Catalan president has indicated that he has a very good memory of his attendance at the Falset Wine Fair last year: "who was going to tell us then that this year's scenario would be so different".

In this sense, he recognized that the wine sector is suffering due to the impact of the health crisis, due to the difficulties of international trade and due to the limitation of the activity of bars and restaurants.

"In difficult times, the people of Priorat have not given up easily, you are fighters," he stressed.
