“Honestly, Jaume Asens, I do not recognize you. You already insulted me by calling me a fascist and I kept quiet. Today, all this. I ask for some public excuses,” said Torra this Wednesday in a tweet picked up by Europa Press.
In the message, the president has cited the expressions “contagion of the sectarianism of Torra” and “virus of identity confrontation”, which Asens has used in the debate in the Lower House on the extension of the state of alarm.
After Asens’ speech in Congress, Torra had told him in another message on the same social network: “What we need is an independent Catalonia. I hope that one day you will again defend the exercise of the right to self-determination in your country.”
The President of the Generalitat has defended it after Asens has told the ERC leader in Congress, Gabriel Rufián, that “more Tardà and less Torra” is needed, alluding to former Republican deputy in Congress Joan Tardà.
