Three victims are killed by heavy rains in Mallorca

The heavy rains in the last hours east of the island of Majorca have caused three fatalities, according to the emergency service 112 Illes Balears, which in his Twitter account has confirmed this morning the death of a third person to cause of the floods.

Around two o'clock in the morning today, the Balearic Emergency Service confirmed in the social network "a third fatality due to a serious storm today", which means that three people have already lost their lives in the last hours because of the intense rains, without knowing the exact reason of the deaths for now.

However, it is known that two of the deceased died from the flood that occurred on Tuesday night in the Mallorcan town of Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, after overflowing the torrent that passes through this town of the Levant of the island where, apparently, both resided, as confirmed by the Emergency Service 112.

Local and insular media have affirmed that in addition to the three deceased, there are wounded and numerous disappeared, although this last data has not been confirmed by the Emergency Service 112.

The regional government has regretted "deeply" through its Twitter account the deaths that are causing the floods.

Heavy rains in recent hours in Mallorca have caused the flood of the Sant Llorenç des Cardassar torrent and the closure of several roads in the eastern part of the island, reported the Mallorca Fire Department and the Consell de Mallorca.

Up to 220 liters of water per square meter have fallen in the Sant Llorenç area, according to the Balearic Government.

In this place an emergency equipment device of approximately one hundred professionals works this morning.

The Emergency Service of 112 asks all residents to stay in their homes and that no students go to class tomorrow in the schools of the municipalities of Sant Llorenç, Colònia de Sant Pere, Artà and Son Servera.

The Emergency Service 112 has reported that the Miquel Àngel Nadal and Capellera de Manacor sports centers and the Es Pinaró sports center in Son Servera have been set up to assist people affected by heavy rains in this area of ​​the northeast of the island.

The material damages caused by the overflow of the torrent are very large, according to eyewitnesses of the flood and of the emergency services displaced to the place.

The Ministry of Defense confirmed the arrival in Mallorca on Wednesday from Valencia of 80 troops and 7 vehicles of the III Battalion of the Military Emergency Unit (UME) to deal with this crisis.

The president of the Balearic Government, Francina Armengol, spoke by telephone this evening with the Vice President of the Government, Carmen Calvo, to ask the central executive for help to act and deal with this crisis that has its focus on this Mallorcan town.
