Three small girls have lost their lives and a fourth is in critical condition after being hit by a van that has swooped on a group of girl scouts he was picking up trash on the edge of a road of the North American state of Wisconsin, as informed this Sunday by the American television network NBC.
An adult woman has also lost her life in the incident. The event has taken place in Lake Hallie, a town in northern Wisconsin. The vehicle in question rushed into the shoulder of the road, where it rammed the group of minors, as confirmed by the local police sergeant, Daniel Sokup.
The driver, who has already been identified as Colton Treu, 21, fled from the scene where the events took place, but hours later opted to surrender.
"The Lake Hallie Police Department would like to convey its sincere condolences to the families of the victims," Sokup said in a statement, where he said they are still investigating what happened.
