Those hospitalized by COVID drop below 2,000 for the first time since there are occupancy records

Spain is already in the considered low risk of contagion of coronavirus according to Health criteria, after this Thursday less than 50 cases of incidence were reported for the first time since July 2020. This Monday, the incidence drops to 46, 08 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and its downward trend continues.
Health has also notified 3,829 new infections registered during the weekend, a decrease compared to the same day last week, when 4,271 new positives were registered. In total, 4,977,448 people have been infected by COVID since the start of the pandemic.
Hospitalizations continue with a downward trend and this Monday 1,942 hospitalizations were reported, the lowest figure since there are records. Health provided hospital occupancy data for the first time on August 21, but it was on August 1, with 2,200 people hospitalized for COVID, when infections began to increase.
Health authorities have also reported 49 deaths registered since Friday, making a total of 86,827 deaths from COVID since the start of the pandemic. It represents a decrease compared to last Monday, when 64 deaths were reported.
The sixth wave will not be of the children
Going back to school has not led to an upturn in infections among boys and girls, the only ones who are not vaccinated in Spain. Children under 12 years of age continue to lead the incidence - something obvious, according to experts, given that they are not immunized - but the evolution of infections since summer in this age group has adopted the same downward curve as the rest: since 31 December July has fallen from 584 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in 14 days to 96.
In the data, no negative effect related to the return to the classroom is perceived "despite the fact that there was a certain rumor that children would cause the sixth wave." "It has not happened," says Quique Bassat, epidemiologist and coordinator of the working group of the Spanish Association of Pediatrics for the Reopening of Schooling. Schools and institutes - at this level, boys and girls are already vaccinated - are one of the few social spaces that maintain restrictions practically unchanged from last year.
