this is the Xiaomi mobile with 108 megapixels

"We continue to develop incredible products at incredible prices," with this blunt statement of intentions, Xiaomi regional marketing manager Sally Liu has started presenting a phone that looks like a sign of changing trends. It seems that it is not enough to simply sell cheap phones.

The Mi Note 10, in its standard and Pro version, has been announced as an "epic phone". The truth is that Xiaomi seems to have worked hard. Its five cameras, with a principal of 108 megapixels, are at least an exercise in risk and innovation worthy of applauding. Although there are some figures that, as we will see in a quieter analysis, of their photographic qualities seem more designed to promote it.

Those 108 megapixels of the camera with angular lens, optically stabilized, allow the printing of photos of more than four meters. As has been demonstrated in the presentation. Its image sensor is the largest currently equipped with a phone, it is almost an inch in size. A size similar to that equipped with some advanced compact cameras. The problem is that despite equipping this huge sensor the pixel size is smaller than phones with much less resolution and smaller sensors.

At night the photos improve by reducing the resolution to 27 megapixels, stacking four pixels to achieve a virtual pixel of 1.6 microns. A considerable size. It will be necessary to see if Xiaomi has done a better job in processing the image than with the 64 megapixel sensor that equips the Mi Note Pro 8, which disappointed us with its poor performance when light is scarce.

The 108 megapixels of the main camera are a spectacular figure, but it will have to be tested calmly to see what it is capable of

In addition, it has two objectives to achieve a two magnification zoom for portraits and another camera that achieves a 10x hybrid zoom, although it can be expanded up to 50 magnifications. Although in that case its usefulness is not to take pictures but to use it as a kind of digital telescope to see distant objects. The set is finished off by a macro camera for detail photos. It also highlights the super wide-angle camera, although its resolution of 50 megapixels seems excessively high. On the front there is a camera for 32 megapixel selfies.

An Android personalization layer, Miui 11, is also released with a cleaner look than in previous versions. The terminal uses Android 9, a shame not to find already implanted Android 10. Miui 11 seems quite flexible in aspects such as the customization of the home screen if we choose that it is always active.

The phone has been compared during the presentation with other terminals to influence its low price, but the compared models offer more powerful processors

Aspects such as the use of nature sounds to wake us up or for notifications have been taken care of. These may even vary according to the time of day. It is also striking that the functionality of printing wirelessly has been adapted to a huge number of printers, so it is not necessary to use applications from the manufacturer of each model.

The battery is the most powerful we've seen on any phone: 5,260 mAh with a built-in 30w fast charger. The processor, of course, is the Snapdragon 730G, which is solvent but does not reach the power of the Snapdragon 855 processor. This is highlighted because Xiaomi has compared the price of this terminal with other competing phones with more powerful processors. Of course, the 6.5-inch screen is AMOLED.

But the use of that processor explains its price of 549 euros in the version with 6 gigabytes and 128 gigabytes of storage, while the Pro model with 8 gigabytes of ram and 256 gigabytes of ram costs 649 euros. Competitive figures, but not spectacular due to the absence of a high-end processor.

Xiaomi has also presented several cheap TVs in Madrid and another phone: the Redmi Note 8T. A variant of the Redmi Note 8 Pro that we tested recently. Although in this case the main camera does not have 64 megapixels, it does have a 48 megapixel camera. Although we would not be surprised if that sensor, a fairly solvent Sony, provides better quality. The Snapdragon 665 processor has also been incorporated instead of a Mediatek model, which caused some controversy due to some cases of excessive heating. The model has four gigabytes of ram and 64 of storage has been announced, almost as if it were an auction, for 199 euros.
