This is the ideal boss for the Spaniards


After confirming that the transformational leadership - which consists of a type of management focused on human capital, in which teams are challenged, motivated and valued as they are considered an essential part of the evolution and growth of the companies - is the most desired by the population, according to an Infojobs study. From the leading platform in Spain to find the best professional opportunities and the best talent, it has also been analyzed which are the qualities that, according to the Spanish active population, the ideal boss or leader should have.

The results of the study confirm that for almost one in two active Spanish workers Your ideal boss is one who knows how to recognize, congratulate and treat your team well. A fact that is not surprising if we take into account that, according to the I Employment Barometer carried out by the platform, the lack of recognition at work is ranked as the second of the labor material concerns most mentioned by the Spanish active population.

Analyzing the rest of the qualities, honesty and trustworthiness of the leader are chosen by four out of ten employees. Other aspects such as empathy (39%), the boss's ability to work in a team (38%), delegate and trust (35%), the ability to communicate (29%), active listening (28) %), humility (28%), experience (25%) and authority without taxation (24%).

But, seeing the results by different variables, the results change. Taking first the answers given by women and men, we see that for them the most important thing is that the boss knows how to recognize and congratulate his team (55%) while for them honesty and trust occupy the first place (43 ,5%). Empathy, the second characteristic chosen by 43% of women, falls to fifth place among men (35%), while for them the second most sought quality in their leader is their ability to recognize achievements (43%) .

In third position, both men and women refer to teamwork. In general, what is observed is that, regardless of gender, both coincide in the desired qualities, but with different order of mention.

According to the professional category, recognition, congratulations and good treatment is in first position both for employees, who are the ones who mention them most (51%), as for middle managers and managers, although the latter two mention it to a lesser extent, down to 42% and 47%, respectively.

The same goes for the ability to communicate, which is important for 33% of employees and only for 21% of the management. It should also be noted that 30% of employees give importance to having a humble boss, while this quality is only desired by 20% of the professionals who hold managerial positions. And the situation is repeated with active listening, which is something highly valued by employees (29.5%) but is among the last positions for managers (19%).

On the opposite side, it is observed that, for senior managers, delegating and trusting is the third aspect they most want to find in a leader (42%), a quality less valued by employees, in fifth position (33%). In the same way it happens with the global vision, highly highlighted by management (23%) and not very relevant for employees (13%). Finally, two differential qualities are observed for middle managers: transmitting authority without imposing (29%) and the ability to prioritize (23%), aspects that fall to 23% and 16% respectively in the rest of the professional levels.

There are also some differences by age. The most significant is found in young people between 16 and 24 years since they are the only ones who choose empathy as the most desired quality in a leader, with 51% of mentions. In the range of 25 to 44 years, this quality occupies the second place (42% of mentions), while for those from 45 to 55 it already falls to fifth position (with 34% of mentions) and in the case of those over 55 falls to the sixth (30%).

Likewise, humility is also more important for young people, which ranks among the top five most desired qualities in a leader. The active population aged 16 to 24 mentions it in fifth place (30%) and those aged 25 to 34 place it in the fourth (35%). In general, humility is the eighth most desired quality (28%) and in groups of 35 to 45 years, 46 to 55 years and over 55 years also loses strength and is located in octave (29%), ninth (26%) and twelfth (18%) position.

Active listening also appears among the five qualities most desired by young people aged 16 to 24 (31%), while in the other age groups it occupies inferior positions and always out of the top 5. And, instead, we see that in groups from 35 years of age the quality of knowing how to work in a team becomes more important and slips into the top five positions, while for younger people it is a less valued quality.
