Thirteen arrested for celebrating clandestine cockfights in Tordesillas | Society

The Civil Guard has arrested 13 people as alleged perpetrators of a crime of animal abuse by the organization of cock fights clandestines in Tordesillas (Valladolid). Four of the 22 animals intervened had wounds of varying severity, and were "totally bloodied" after participating in fights.

The events took place on June 30, in a ship on the outskirts of the town. In the operation, called Gallustor, 1,000 euros were also intervened, from the bets of this illegal activity.

The researchers detected a neighbor of Cantabria dedicated to the breeding of roosters who was interested in organizing fights of these animals in the province of Valladolid. Later they intercepted a meeting between several owners of roosters in a ship of Tordesillas. The agents observed an influx of people with carriers for the transfer of animals to the aforementioned ship. At the time of hearing the crowd, they decided to enter, inspect and register the premises, where they were caught, in full activity, the 13 people arrested, aged between 30 and 58, who were released on charges.

Inside the building was installed the reñidero, which had a stopwatch and other instruments used in these events. The 22 roosters were placed in drawers and cages. In addition, they were found useful for the handling of the spurs of birds "and thus make them more aggressive", have indicated sources of the armed institute. They are also investigating the possible illegal bets around this type of clandestine activities, around animals of the race Spanish fighter in which these animals are carried to death.

The detainees moved from bordering communities such as Cantabria, Asturias, Segovia and Palencia, as well as Valladolid. The injured animals were transferred to the Wild Animal Recovery Center (CRAS), dependent on the Junta de Castilla y León, where they received veterinary attention.

The operation has been carried out by the Nature Protection Service (Seprona), with the support of the Judicial Police and Citizen Security of the Civil Guard Command of Valladolid. The proceedings, together with the detainees, have been sent to the Court of the Guard of Valladolid and the Provincial Prosecutor's Office of Valladolid.
