They suspend a bodybuilding tournament due to massive abandonment when they know that they were doing anti-doping tests

The II Euskadi Cup of bodybuilding and 'fitness' organized on Sunday in Santurce (Vizcaya) was suspended "after the abandonment of most of the participants" once it was learned that they were going to carry out anti-doping tests, according to the Basque Anti-Doping Agency (AVA).

This entity, dependent on the Directorate of Physical Activity and Sports of the Basque Government, details in a statement that the AVA agents showed up at the competition venue "without prior warning as is usual and desirable" to carry out a series of doping controls.

"After the start of the event, since the weigh-in had already taken place just before the doping control agents designated by the AVA, most of the participants left the place of the event, a situation that forced the organization to suspend the test", Explain.

The AVA clarifies that "this does not mean that the abandonment of the competition by the participants has been due to the existence of doping control" and that this assertion, in any case, "must be made by the organizers (IFBB -Euskadi (International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness) and / or by the participants ".

Likewise, the Basque Anti-Doping Agency clarifies that last May it signed "a collaboration agreement with IFBB-Euskadi" so that the AVA "could carry out doping controls in those competitions organized by this association in the Autonomous Community of Euskadi".

As a result of this agreement, In a competition held in Santurtzi on June 16, the AVA conducted controls taking "samples to 12 participants" of which "5 of them gave positive analytical reports by one or several substances of different types, such as anabolic agents, stimulants, diuretics and social drugs ".

The results were sent to IFBB-Euskadi, which details the AVA, is the entity that "is responsible for the processing of possible disciplinary proceedings that may exist in the event of possible infractions by the use of doping substances."

The agency's note concludes that "in the forums or international meetings against doping in which he has participated, he has learned that an activity in which there is an important problem in relation to the use of doping substances is bodybuilding and fitness. "
