A Canarian social platform has started an initiative to put tourist apartments, which are now mostly empty, at the disposal of health workers who are working on the fight against coronavirus and that they fear infecting their families, completely free.
‘Let’s take care of those who take care of us’ has achieved five vacation apartments in the surroundings of the Las Canteras beach, in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, as well as heavy laundry discounts – at Speed Queen Luján Pérez – and the provision of at least one restaurant in the capital of Gran Canaria to meet eventual food needs.
Of the five apartments, one has been occupied and four are still available, which the owners are making available completely free of charge in some cases and in others for expenses. They are also in talks with hotel facilities in the capital of Gran Canaria to study availability and ways to do it safely, a spokesman has explained.
The objective of this Platform is to encourage the collaboration of all those who have tourist floors that are now empty as a result of the coronavirus as well as other resources and make them available to those healthcare facilities that lack other options.
And it is that, they recall, the “concern when arriving home after the working day for infecting relatives and loved ones” amplifies the stress suffered by health workers. “This is why there is an urgent need to find an alternative resting place from home, far from contact with family and neighbors,” they explain.
