A specimen of a whale in “critical danger of extinction” was sighted yesterday on the island of El Hierro, specifically a few meters from the breakwater of the La Restinga pier. It is a right whale, says the Society for the Study of Cetaceans in the Canary Archipelago (Secac). The animal even entered that port. “He was alone and that worries us,” they express from the scientific NGO Secac.
He is young and measures about four meters, estimates Günter Baumgartel, who published the video of the exceptional find on social networks.
They are called right whales because they swim slowly and are easy prey for hunters.
