The year 2019 starts with increases in pensions, the minimum wage and the salary of public employees, but also of mortgages, and decreases in the gas tariff, the tolls on some highways and the freezing of prices on Cercanías trains , although those of medium distance will rise.
Below are some elements of daily life that go up, down or remain the same with the start of the year.
What goes up
- Pensions, SMI and salary of officials. The year 2019 comes with good news for pensioners, workers who earn the Minimum Interprofessional Salary (SMI) and public employees.
Pensions will rise, in general, 1.6%, although the minimum and non-contributory will do so by 3%, although the workers who charge the SMI, which will rise by 22.3% to 900 euros per month in 14 payments, will be the most benefited.
For public employees, wages will rise by 2.25% and may have an additional variable increase of 0.25% in the second half of the year, depending on the GDP growth reached in 2018.
- Mortgages. The official closure data for the moment has not been published, but the twelve-month Euribor, the most used indicator for calculating mortgages in Spain, is expected to close 2018 up, with a rate in December close to -0.132%, vs. -0.147% from the previous month. That assumes that an average mortgage is expensive at about 30.6 euros annual
- The tolls. The rates for toll roads dependent on the General State Administration will rise around 1.67%. From this rise they are excluding bankrupt highways which have reverted to the State, which will drop an average of 30% from January 15.
The broken highways are the AP-41, which runs between Madrid-Toledo and will shortly revert to the State, and those already reversed: R-2, R-3, R-4 and R-5, known as Madrid's radials; the AP-36, between Ocaña and La Roda; the AP-7 Cartagena (Murcia) -Vera (Almería); the Circunvalación de Alicante and the M-12 Eje Aeropuerto.
- The share of the self-employed. To the self-employed Social Security fees go up: 5.36 euros the minimum monthly (up to 283.3 euros) and 6.89 for the companies, although they improve their benefits due to cessation of work, accidents at work and occupational disease.
- The tickets of the classes Avant and Media Distancia of Renfe. They rise by 7% and 3.5%, respectively.
- The postal mail. It will be a little more expensive. The postage of the ordinary national letter with a weight of up to 20 grams, the most used product, will cost 5 cents and will have a rate of 0.60 euros.
The international cards and postcards will be crossed with 1.40 euros, five cents more than in 2018, when the destination is Europe, including Greenland, and 1.50 euros (1.45 euros in 2018) for the rest of the countries.
What goes down
- The gas. The tariffs of last resource (TUR) of the natural gas, that premiere year with a change of methodology in its calculation, will drop on average by 4.6% for the first quarter of the year.
Users of TUR 1, who use gas for cooking and hot water, will have a decrease of 3.8% compared to the rates set in October for the last quarter of 2018, while for those of TUR 2, which also they use it for heating, it will be 4.8%.
The regulated part of the gas bill, the so-called tolls, fixed by the Government, they will remain frozen in 2019, for the fifth consecutive year.
- The light. Like gas, the regulated part, which represents around 60% of the price, will be frozen.
In addition, during a part of the new year the tax on electricity generation of 7% will not be paid, which the Government decided at the beginning of October to suspend for six months.
- The IBI. With the entry of the new year almost 1,800 municipalities update the property value of their real estate and apply a joint average decrease of 1.92%. That does not mean that there are decreases in all municipalities: l The changes will oscillate between falls of 2% and increases of 5%.
- Gasoline and diesel. The prices of gasoline and diesel start the year accumulating seven weeks of descents, after the peaks recorded by oil in October.
What remains
- The butane cylinder. The cylinder starts the year without variations and it will continue to cost 15.33 euros, after rising 4.93% in November, until its price is revised in January.
- The Cercanías and Metric Width tickets. Renfe maintains the rates for the Cercanías and Metric Anchorage services, which account for 80% of the trips.
