The squares are designed for musicians who do not belong to any professional symphonic ensemble and who have not previously belonged to the Young Orchestra of the Canary Islands. Those who do not meet these requirements, but demonstrate an adequate level in the recordings, may be included at the discretion of the court in a database to be summoned to any activity of the Jocan as guest musicians, if the project so requires.
The training is currently made up of more than 170 young musicians from the islands and is a training and artistic project of the Government of the Canary Islands that began in December 2016.
In its first four years, the Jocan has performed 64 concerts, which have been received by great interest from critics and the public. More than 27,000 people have been spectators of the evolution and growth of this young orchestra with continuous attendance at its concerts.
La Jocan, both in symphonic and chamber formation, has established itself as a great orchestra in the artistic-musical aspects, as the artistic director Víctor Pablo Pérez, the audience and the participating teachers have warned, who have indicated the value and the talent of the young Canarian musicians.
