The year comes with gas drops, increases in Renfe and no pension changes

The year 2020 begins with decreases in the regulated rates of natural gas, rises in Renfe tickets and with the freezing, for the moment, of the regulated part of the electricity bill.

Pensions, the minimum interprofessional salary (SMI) and the salary of public employees will remain unchanged pending the formation of the new Government.

In the field of energy, 2020 comes with an average reduction of 4% in the rates of last resort (TUR) of natural gas - to which domestic users are welcomed -, thanks to the lowering of raw materials.

Natural gas rates are reviewed quarterly, but only when the cost of raw material rises or falls more than 2%.

The price of the butane bottle will not be reviewed until the third Tuesday of January. In its last update, in November, it rose 4.86%, to 12.74 euros, after five consecutive declines.

As for the regulated part of the electricity bill, it is frozen for another year, this time until the methodology for setting access tolls and charges is developed.

In the transport chapter, the year begins with the increase in the cost of train tickets: the AVE rates and conventional long and medium distance routes rise by 1.1%; 1.2% high-speed medium distance services; and 1% of Cercanías, which had not changed since 2015.

However, the prices of multi-tour tickets (of ten or more trips) are maintained, so that, in practice, the rates are frozen for recurring travelers.

In air transport, airport taxes, which airlines pay to Aena for using certain services at their airports (runways, runways, airplane parking or security services) will drop 1.44% as of March 1.

This reduction, approved by the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC), is higher than the one proposed by Aena (1.17%).

As for the tolls of state highways, although the Ministry of Development has not yet officially confirmed the increase by 2020, industry sources place it at 0.84%.

In the field of telecommunications, the main operators - Telephony, Vodafone, Orange and MásMóvil - do not expect to increase the monthly line fee by 2020, the fixed charge on the invoice that charges the maintenance costs of the household line linked to the Internet .

In the air there are, for the moment, the increases in pensions, the SMI and the salaries of officials.

The revaluation of the 0.9% pensions committed by the acting president, Pedro Sánchez, will be approved when the new Government is constituted and will be applied retroactively from January 1, 2020.

The Acting Executive has suspended the application of the minimum rise of 0.25% established in the reform of the PP, still in force, to not waste resources in a double revaluation (0.25% now and another 0.65% when there is Government ).

The same applies to the increase in the interprofessional minimum wage (SMI), the amount of which is still pending political negotiation and with social agents, which will be approved by royal decree later on retroactively.

The fixed 2% wage increase for public employees committed in the three-year agreement signed in March 2018 by the sector unions with the then Minister of Finance, Cristóbal Montoro, is also pending.

Although housing prices are not regulated, the calculations of companies and experts point to a rise of between 3% and 4% in the purchase of real estate, and from 4% to 6%, in the rent.
