The wildest fight of the year, in the American University League
The American University League set off this morning the wildest fight so far this year in world basketball. The match between the Kansas and Kansas State universities of the NCAA was more than decided in favor of the former (59-81) when hostilities broke out.
A robbery of De Juan Gordon, of Kansas State, in the final seconds ended with a wild stopper of Angola's Silvio De Sousa (2.06 and 111 kilos). Its subsequent celebration caused the monumental anger of the entire Kansas State team and began the pitched battle. The incidents moved to the stands, De Sousa tried to throw even a chair and all the players, except five, ended up ejected. The match ended with 60-81. The Kansas coach, Bill Self, said: "It was a shame because it also happened in the seating area for the disabled." Bruce Weber, a Kansas State coach, said: “I have no idea what happened. I am disappointed to have ended up like this ». Both universities will be measured again on February 29 in Manhattan.
