The supply vessel in combat Cantabria has today abandoned its base Ferrol military arsenal to participate in the maneuvers of NATO in Norway, reported today the Spanish Navy in a statement.
The Cantabria plans to integrate into the "vicinity of the Galician coast" the maritime group 2 of NATO to participate in this maritime equipment for a period of two months and which will include the maneuvers soon on the Norwegian coasts, one of the largest operations of the Atlantic Alliance.
This exercise, called Trident Juncture 2018, is expected to mobilize some 40,000 soldiers from NATO member countries, to which vessels from Sweden and Finland, not belonging to that military alliance, will join.
According to the Navy, this NATO operation, which will take place between the end of October and the beginning of November, constitutes the "most important exercises of the Atlantic organization since 2015", in the face of Russia's growing challenge.
The ship will have 170 people and a helicopter, after concluding the maneuvers will return to the Mediterranean to carry out "maritime surveillance and security operations".
