The United States pressures European countries to totally exclude Huawei from 5G deployment

The United States Government is pressing the European Union and, especially, companies with a presence in the community territory so that completely exclude Huawei in the deployment of its 5G networks, not limiting itself to the core as several European operators have done. In this regard, the United States Deputy Secretary of State Robert Strayer, has held meetings with the Spanish and European authorities.

However, for Washington this is not enough. For this reason, Strayer is officially traveling in Europe to pressure governments to be stricter with the Chinese company. Last week he was present at the Munich Security Conference, at the beginning of the week he was in Portugal and these days is in Spain, where he has met with the private sector, regulators and authorities, among which are the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation and that of Foreign Affairs.
Strayer has been blunt and pointed out that «In China there is no rule of law, there is no independent judicial system and the Chinese Communist Party can order a supplier like Huawei or ZTE to take actions that are not in the interest of Spanish citizens or around the world.
The exclusion of the nucleus, insufficient
Asked about the decision of several telecos to exclude Huawei only from the sensitive part of the network, known as the core or "core", Strayer has specified that it is not enough and that Washington is committed to completely eliminating it from the networks, because in the non-core parts "Computing still occurs", so it is a source of "potential vulnerabilities."
“It should not be the telecommunications operators that perform these important national security decisions, they should be governments, ”Strayer stressed.
